I learned about fingerweaving in 2025 at the Indigenous Felt Knowledge Festival. I had no idea what it was other than I wanted to learn it. After finding a couple of books and buying more yarn than I probably needed, I started the craft. I am a novice, for sure, and I am not making belts or anything crazy. But I did take my love for color combinations and created things I want people to wear in conjunction with what they decide to display themselves as everyday. My work has started that shift into a "collaboration". I make things that speak to me with their color and pattern, and you pair it with the person you are that day.
Since beginning the fingerweaving, which is weaving by hand without a loom, I have loved seeing what I can turn the pieces into. It started with bracelets, went to hair clips, took a detour at lanyards, and is now trying its luck with headbands.
As always, I love using materials and seeing what they look like to me as I make them, and then I challenge myself by asking, "but how can you turn it into that". <3
